As we approached our older children going to college, we were confronted with sobering statistics saying that 60-88% of children from evangelical homes leave church during their college years. I then learned, it was not going to college that did these young adults in. The falling away from the faith rate was about the same for 18-24 year-olds who did not go to college! It was heart-breaking to think that after investing 20 years in someone’s life and believing we had transferred our faith to them, they would simply walk away from what we felt was the most valuable thing we had given them.
The purpose of this site is to share what I have learned as a parent I could do to change the odds so my children were not among those who walked away from the faith. Daniel was my inspiration. Daniel was taken from his home, probably as a teenager, and thrown into a pagan culture that even tried to strip him of his God honoring name, yet Daniel was willing to die rather than pause his conversation with God.
As parent educators, my wife and I strive to envision parents with Joshua 14:15b, “But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.” We equip parents with practical and Biblically sound tools. We empower them with a Biblical understanding of family and intra-family relationships. We then stand to encourage those fathers and mothers in their efforts to transfer their faith to their children.
Now may the God of peace who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great shepherd of the sheep, by the blood of the eternal covenant, equip you with everything good that you may do his will, working in us that which is pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.
